UPSTATE LATINO SUMMIT 2020-2021
Upstate Latino Summit
The Latino Community is growing nationally, and the Upstate area is NOT an exception. Here is a chance to see this growth live, and to understand the current status of this ethnic group in a forgotten region of the famous Empire state.
The First Upstate Latino Summit took place in September 2007 and was hosted by Hispanics United of Buffalo. It was developed by Lourdes Iglesias and a group of Latino leaders from the cities of Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Amsterdam, and Albany. The purpose of the First Summit was to offer an opportunity for Upstate Latino Community-Based Organizations to gather and create a report for attendees, politicians, and representatives of governmental agencies about matters important to our community. After that many years, now this annual event includes the participation of Latino Community-Based organizations from Albany, Amsterdam, Rome-Utica, Syracuse, Rochester, and Buffalo, and recently included Ithaca and Watertown. As we are all aware, there are many serious issues facing the Latino community. Topics such as Employment & Economic Development, Latino Health Disparities, Affordable Housing, and Youth & Gang Involvement are just a few of the many subject matters we discussed at past events. This forum is the ideal opportunity to enhance one’s knowledge of current issues and trends affecting Latinos in our region. In addition to learning more about the Latino community, this event presents a unique networking opportunity for professionals from the corporate, public, governmental, and nonprofit sectors. This is the event where the who’s who in Upstate Latino Community meets. Our next Upstate Latino Summit workshop will be held virtually on March 25, 2021 from 9 a.m. until Noon. See below for information about the different events and workshops, as well as a digital downloadable version of the Programs and Brochures.
