C. Sonia Martinez
​CO-FOUNDER & EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Sonia oversees the daily operations of the agency and serves area Latino residents by providing education, housing, immigration, healthcare, social services, translation/interpretation, judicial and/or employment services.

Sonia co-created MVLA in 2003 after realizing the immense need for a Latino organization that provided assistance to the growing Spanish-speaking population in the Mohawk Valley.​

After years of volunteering her time assisting Latinos with their needs, in 2019, Sonia became the agency's first paid employee.

Luzilda Fecunda
CLIENT NAVIGATOR

Luzilda was born in Bronx, NY and relocated to Utica in 2024 with her three daughter, Luzmarie, Lizbeth, and Perla. She joined MVLA in 2024 thanks to the United Way Mohawk Valley Root Grant.

In her role, Luzilda welcomes clients and visitors and does a first assessment of their needs and the services they require. Also, does graphic design and MVLA website updates.

In her spare time, Luzilda likes spending time with her daughters, supporting them with school and community activities and traveling, and especially visiting her family in the Netherlands and Dominican Republic.
