Ritmo Caribeño Dance Youth Group Program
Mission: To create a healthy and supportive environment for the youth through the creative Arts and Music, Volunteerism and Mentoring.
Objective of Program: To identify and develop ways to improve healthy learning and behaviors in children ages, 5-18 years of age. The goal is to reach inner city children and provide cultural exposure and an opportunity to learn about their roots through music and dancing.
Activities: Cultural dance instruction, Youth Newsletter (Hear their Voices/Oye Nuestras Voces), participate at community volunteer events, mentorship with college clubs and other youths, attend art/entertainment shows, special training and practice a sport, such as tennis (summer youth tennis program).
Youth like to share their ideas and opinions, it is important to allow them to express themselves in this form, art and music is a natural way for each of them to participate. They can do crafts, write poems and songs, dance, and/or draw.
Tools: Group discussions on bullying, drug education, sexual violence, teen Pregnancy, substance abuse, parenting, and healthy eating. These topics will be discuss with parents first for approval, prior to exposure to youths.
