Monalisa Fermin-Fennell was born and raised in Washington Heights, NYC. From a young age, she was active in community service and youth leadership programs focused on empowering girls and addressing community challenges like food insecurity and literacy. She moved to Utica to study Sociology at SUNY Polytechnic Institute with an emphasis on social change.
After graduating, Monalisa worked in New York City supporting families with disabilities, eventually becoming a Facility Director. She returned to Utica in 2010 and currently works as a Quality Management Specialist at ICAN. Monalisa also serves on several boards, including the Mohawk Valley Latino Association and the Utica Civilian Public Safety Advisory Board. She is passionate about advocating for vulnerable populations and strengthening community ties.
